Fast Facts
Located in the pristine Pacific Northwest, the University of Puget Sound offers students both the urban amenities of local Tacoma and nearby Seattle, as well as access to a variety of outdoor activities, such as kayaking and hiking. Puget Sound might further appeal to those interested in environmental activism, as it supports a campus-wide sustainability program. Within this dynamic context, the college provides its students a broad-based, liberal arts education that focuses on critical thinking and writing skills. Students also benefit from the School of Music and the School of Business. Puget Sound seeks to create a diverse and welcoming campus community that will cultivate “effective citizen-leaders for a pluralistic world.” The mission of the University is to develop in its students the capacities for critical analysis, aesthetic appreciation, sound judgment, and apt expression that will sustain a lifetime of intellectual curiosity, active inquiry, and reasoned independence. A Puget Sound education, both academic and co-curricular, encourages a rich knowledge of self and others, an appreciation of commonality and difference, the full, open, and civil discussion of ideas, thoughtful moral discourse, and the integration of learning, preparing the University’s graduates to meet the highest tests of democratic citizenship. The University of Puget Sound is an independent, four-year liberal arts college founded in 1888 and located in Tacoma, Washington.
