Fast Facts
Chartered in 1890, the University of Chicago quickly became a world leader in higher education and research. Over 80 Nobel laureates are associated with UChicago—the largest number affiliated with any American university. Students choose UChicago for its rigorous liberal arts curriculum, conducted in small Socratic-style seminars with a student-faculty ratio of 7:1. The residential housing system is a vital element of the College community. Modeled after the British house system, the 35 houses compete against each other in intramural sports, eat together at shared dining tables, and take trips to sporting and cultural events. UChicago’s location only fifteen minutes from the city center allows the students to immerse themselves in the diversity of urban life.
