Fast Facts
Since its founding in 1867, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has earned a reputation as a world-class leader in research, teaching, and public engagement. Distinguished by the breadth of its programs, broad academic excellence, and internationally renowned faculty, Illinois alumni have earned Nobel and Pulitzer Prizes and Olympic medals, have orbited the earth, and lead international corporations. The campus also offers rich experiences beyond the classroom, from performing
arts to Big Ten sports. Centrally located between Chicago, Indianapolis and St. Louis, students come from all 50 states and over 100 countries. Also, there are many cultural study centers at the university – which highlight regions including Africa, East Asia and the Pacific, Latin America, the Caribbean, Russia, Eastern Europe, South Asia and the Middle East. In addition to being responsive to issues of cultural diversity, New Mobility, a magazine, has continuously ranked the school as the No. 1 “disability-friendly college” in the country.
