Fast Facts
The University of Montana offers students academic excellence in addition to outstanding outdoor recreational opportunities and quality of life. Students receive a high-quality, well-rounded education through the university’s five colleges —arts and sciences, education and human sciences, forestry and conservation, health professions and biomedical sciences, and technology — and four professional schools — journalism, law, business and fine arts. The University of Montana was founded in 1893 in the pioneer town of Missoula, fewer than 90 years after Lewis and Clark and their Corps of Discovery explored the area. Today, the university dedicates a considerable amount of time, energy and resources to working with first-generation, minority and low-income students. Located in the midst of western Montana’s stunning natural landscape, The University of Montana’s campus has been deemed the most scenic in America by Rolling Stone.
