Founded in 1876, Prairie View A&M University is a historically black, co-educational, non-denominational, comprehensive, public university and the second-oldest public institution of higher learning in the state of Texas. With an established reputation for producing engineers, nurses and educators and a member of The Texas A&M University System, the university is dedicated to fulfilling its land-grant mission of achieving excellence in teaching, research and service. Prairie View is also known for its specialized programs and services in juvenile justice, architecture, teacher education, social work and agricultural and natural resource sciences.
