The University of South Dakota is a comprehensive, coeducational, non-denominational, public liberal-arts university offering undergraduate, graduate and professional programs within the South Dakota System of Higher Education. Founded in 1862, the university is the state’s oldest and the only liberal-arts university. The University of South Dakota is home to the state’s only law and medical schools as well as the College of Fine Arts, School of Health Sciences and Beacom School of Business. The school provides opportunities for involvement in music, theatre and a wide range of additional recreational, cultural, social and professional activities and organizations. The university seeks to provide graduate and undergraduate programs in the liberal arts and sciences and in professional education, to promote excellence in teaching and learning, to support research, scholarly and creative activities and to provide service to South Dakota and the region.
