Pitzer College, one of seven schools in the Claremont Colleges consortium, is ranked as the ffth most diverse, private, co-educational, liberal arts college in the top tier. Its graduates and alumni consistently achieve recognition for their academic accomplishments: 14 graduates of the 2006 class and four alums received Fulbright scholarships in 2006-2007 alone. Pitzer stresses an interdisciplinary approach to coursework, and, unlike in many other schools, Pitzer favors educational objectives that guide students in making registration choices rather than traditional requirements. Pitzer has the distinction of having one of the highest participation rates of study abroad programs in the nation. Indicative of the college’s dedication to social responsibility, Pitzer houses the Center for California Cultural and Social Issues, which supports research and education that contributes to the understanding of critical community issues and enhances the resources of community organizations.
